Did You Know?

Most people don't realize the impact that mining has on their daily lives. Electricity, phones, computers, cars, and refrigerators all require minerals and metals to manufacture.

All electricity—even solar or wind power—requires some combination of copper, steel, and/or coal to produce.
Phones, laptops, and TVs all use lithium, silver, and gold.
Cars—whether gas or electric—require copper and zinc, and electric vehicles also depend on cobalt and lithium.
Roads and bridges are built using steel, aluminum, and stone.

These examples are just a fraction of all the minerals we consume, and each of these materials can only be obtained through mining. Fortunately, advancements in technology and mining practices are helping are helping to minimize environmental impacts while still meeting the growing demand for these crucial resources.
